CABALLO & CARNNIBAL – BADMAN TALKIN’

Cumbia never dies. It evolves.

After a huge wave of cumbia in the late 2000s the genre got steady and went back to their original roots in most of the countries that the genre is still alive.

Argentina, Colombia and Mexico kept evolving the genre without losing its cultural impact and it’s very much alive and well in the underground scene, although there is an obvious disconnect between the playlists on the digital streamers and what really people listen on parties, especially street based parties.

Latino Resiste’s Carnnibal who has dropped 3 dancehall albums with the label goes Mestizo with the head honcho Caballo to release BADMAN TALKIN’.

A truly mestizo sound that will remind you why Cumbia and Ragga Dancehall are cousins, and when they both are on the same page.. IT’S STRAIGHT FLAMES.

Caballo – Recycled Revolution

To celebrate a decade in front of Latino Resiste, Caballo releases a new album exploring the current Urban Latino fronts, whether it is new approach like the opening track Souvenir, or exploring lesser known genres like Mode up (From San Andres Island) on the second track (Te quiero Para Mi) or even adding a bit of ska to the Urban Latino track (SANSON) Caballo wants this album to be a testimony of what the label and his own trip ahead of it has accomplished on these first 10 years.

As usual on any Caballo album, heavy collaborations conjoint lesser known names with equally leveled creative skills. Mixing party intended lyrics as well as political and social tracks.

A massive addition is the Dancehall track IMMIGRATION LAW with legendary Buju Banton, highlighting eternal struggle of immigrants trying to follow the nomadic path of reaching a better life in a new place faces global and social pressures by not only the actual travel’s dangers but also facing the systematic discrimination imposed by those who are afraid of interact with the newcomers.

Another great collaboration is done with Canadian Rap legend RELIC on Nothing to Spare (and later on another track SOCIALITE)

Global Bass pioneer Feral, and Russian basshead Chuck Upbeat are also present on a newer take on Tweet retweet, while Venezuelan bangeristas MEDINA and ALPIRE are present in the album as well, one by producing PUM PUM and the former co-producing Old-school Moombahton Mueve la Patica.

Dave Nada Hermanito’s own RANDIZZLE features Caballo on DURO HP.. a heavy dembow track that becomes a simply a laser bass slayer.

Caballo focuses on bass with the collab with Mr Shammi, and later decides to explore dubstep’s own RIDDIM on Sangre Mestiza, making this the first RIDDIM track exploring Latin-indigenous issues or Favela Bass on BAILE DO PAPAI

VPanda- BETTER PANDA

Aleteo keeps getting stronger in South America, and being part of the ever-expansive universe of so-called “Global Bass”; it should not be a surprise to see it getting flirtatious with elements of big room and moombahton.
Venezuelan producer VPanda usually flavors dembow and latin trap, although his latest release on Latino Resiste BETTER PANDA goes full throttle towards Aleteo and it can be grabbed for FREE DOWNLOAD whether at BANDCAMP

Adeller- Tyku

adeller
Latino Resiste fully embraces this zapateo/ aleteo vibe in 2018. This time slaying the Afro-Beat house vibes from Mexico D.F. the soaring and wicked producer ADELLER
Our Mexican homeboy tilts away from his usual moombah related vibe to go fully throttle on the afrobeat perpetual chirpiness blended with his Latino flavour which makes it an acquired taste, but there’s no denying its kinetic power, and blended with ADELLER’s harder beats and harsher bass it becomes a fearsome engine for our Latino Resiste signature sound.

David Munera- OUH

A genre revival that has taken the underground sounds by the horns, has finally start rising with a whole new generation and approaches.
Aleteo, also known as zapateo, guaracheo, chancleteo and most commonly referred by those who make it house tribal (tribalero).

Aleteo itself is a Colombian hybrid that blends elements of house, guarachero, venezuelan tuki, bass tribal, a dutch house.

And depending which country makes it, their variations root deeper into the urban landscapes. Mexican approach is very minimal, having most of the emphasis in the percussion and drums ( which is commonly seen on jungle terror or borneo bass) Colombian goes for catchy basslines and catchy beats, the venezuelan take still goes for the raptor house signature line, while keeping it much more minimal, less saturated than the early days.

OUH is our first aleteo track from 2018, coming from Medellin’s own David Munera, one of the most promising names in the scene, who is close following the likes of Chris Salgado, Dany F, Elee Bermudez, Syrk, Tamalero, Javier Estrada and many more.

Ouh is a great example of the genre that most likely will start crossfading the ever expansible EDM scenes.

If you want to know a little more about our opinion about Aleteo (Zapateo) here it is our Latino Resiste own take:

House has always been big in the underground, but for many reasons it was associated with a less glamorous life style than Europe, creating a huge gap between the posh’s house ( like Guetta,Swedish house Mafia, Maxwell, so on) AND what these aleteo djs’ spin.. Chris Salgado, Trivans, Mega and many more.

Tribal has always been under in Mexico, and only reached viral level thanks to the masterful handle Toy Selectah did to 3ballmty; although the genre only ended up splitting into that very well produced sound, and the one that will keep the genre fresh and urban. Championed in two different fronts, Salgado, MAIWEN one, and Dj Tamalero one tribal never faded.

It didn’t take much for djs to blend both, and give birth to their take of guaracheo, zapateo.

On the other hand, Colombia has seen an gargantuan influx of Venezuelan migrants in the last 4 years due to their political/economical situation.
Having said that, many of the people who have left, will join the forces of the ones who were already in the bottom line of the pyramid.
Growing and/or living now in the city’s slums creates subcultures like in Venezuela when Changa Tuki appeared. So, it wasn’t too complicated that people who still listen to house, and more important, still produce, spin and dance to it, will add their raptor house to the existing Colombian approach. All this became not just a musical genre, it is a life style where upbeat, bouncy dance music championed by tight-dressed DJs and dancers.

Both a response to and a reflection of the volatile circumstances that surrounds it, Alateo/Zapateo is often associated with low profile parties, cheap bars, and minimal attention to the dj equipment. ultimately a way to show off the talent coming out of the barrios, an escape from poverty, and a form of catharsis.

Musically, it can be traced; but, of course, there is always someone who made something similar way before, so unless there is definite proof, it is better to leave that the style was just an inevitable product of the stuff many people were making like Jairo Mendez (VNZ)started in 2010, combined with DJ Tetris (MX), Tamalero (MX/USA), Javier Estrada with prehispanic guarachero and the tribal house DANY F made on his EP LA Nave (2011).

Rand!zzle- Ayahusca

ayahuascaart
There are many genres from the American continent that barely make it outside their niche, whether it be Mode up, Aleteo, Zapateo, Guarachero, Bass Andino, among many others; These sounds, somehow, do reach the ears of some eclectic, curious and vital producers & listeners from Europe and North America; who, in many cases redefine or give a new (out of the ghetto feeling perspective) to the genres.
Latino Resiste gets proud to unveil AYAHUASCA, a guarachero turned Borneo track with heavy references of aleteo, trap, and dancehall from our chicano homeboy RAND!ZZLE.
