No Puede Conmigo is a free EP by Panama Beat Making Lab released by Mal Dicen x Latino Resiste x ARTVSM. The EP features beats, original songs and remixes inspired by the carnival festivals, youth and prisons of Panama. All original songs were recorded in Portobelo, in a community music-studio in where the set the Beat Making Lab up.

The final result is a FREE ALBUM full of trap, moombahton, hip hop, latin-jazz and heavy bangers.
PLUS a whole bunch of BONUS remix EP, made by some heavyweight producers.

No Puede Conmigo also features Kulakostas and Tree City – the first and second-place winners of the Panama Beat Challenge. They were given the task of making a trap beat out of a sample a young Panamanian accordion prodigy named Martin.

Beat Making Lab family/judges: Apple Juice Kid, Caballo and The 13th Tribe selected the top winners, who also received free SoundCloud Pro accounts.

EP opens with a a great example of the collaborative nature of a Beat Making Lab. Producer Apple Juice Kid sampled Barrio Fino – a Panamanian comparsa band – and The Beast – a hip hop and jazz quartet from Durham, North Carolina – to make the beat. Guest vocalist Yomira John blessed the track with an her amazing voice and lyrics. Yomira’s recording session, which took place during a blackout in Portobelo, was turned into a music video.

The final OG track on No Puede Conmigo is a remix of RAM, or Rehabilitacion a Traves de la Musica (rehabilitation through music) – a beat created inside a prison by Apple Juice Kid and an incarcerated beat maker named Professor Angel Sound. To make the the beat, the duo sampled found sounds around the prison studio including a leaky faucet, clicking handcuffs and a guitar. The remix was produced by The 13th Tribe.

Some of you already know I write for Mad Decent. AND in that sense, based on a twist of word, I started calling it Mal Dicen (as it sounds when you mispronounce it with strong hispanic accent)..
Then I’ve got the idea of making a sublabel of Latino Resiste focused on Dancefloor Madness, but keeping the free attitude!!!

WTF is Molly Grit?

Molly Grit is a music tag that grabs the molecular base of trap, moombahton, juke, dubstep , and tropical bass sounds.

THE MUSIC GENRES INVOLVED:
Molly Grit is the newest, most exciting form of bass that has been around for months (even DECADES some may say!).
Anyway, we return from 6 pies bajo la tierra!!

Do not confuse it with Zouk Bass, which mostly is a highly influenced version of Tarraxinha with bass elements.
Both have common elements, but when you listen closely, you will hear big differences.
Tone plays a key factor in Molly Grit.

Another thing that might make a difference between Zouk Bass is Molly Grit has elements of all these genres under one roof. Not sections.

Note again, elements not sections.
The BPM range is between 110 and 140, and few of the common elements are the minimal approach to the woobles and/or the use of 808’s as well as dubstep/tectonic ’s 303 kicks blended with these insane synths

How did it start? Well, there has been a lot of songs that blend those elements since forever; but lately we can see a different approach to these genres with a common pattern with some releases by “the leading bass labels” such as Mad Decent with The Reef’s ignant, or Play Me Records with Donkong’s Jaws, Fof label with Salva’s odd furniture and many, really many more.

So it didn’t take too long for avid bassheads like bukez finezt, the amazing duo symbiz, dancehall producer carnnibal and many more to set full throttle on this genre.

Darwinism in a way, as we believe this is the evolution of bass. Not a newer version of an existing genre.


Back again on why Tagging it as Molly Grit instead of “left field bass” or just simply bass?
well, to be honest many are using just funny names, like bacon unicorn, or pewwwpeww (not kidding!) as their tags. losing the whole potential of either creating -expanding music genres OR missing valuable revenues, plus accurate tags can give some labels or bloggers (who are more practical and have less free time) to search artist by artist a chance to find these sounds easier.

And what if your song becomes Viral?

Remember “harlem shake” ? Tagging became a crucial part of the game for those who take it seriously. As youtube plays, and much more became a reliable form of getting more exposure But a HUGE number of people who love to go against the pack wont do it, or many people will simply say this is not new at all.

And they are right. None of these producers invented left field bass, trap, tropical bass, juke, dubstep, moombahton, etc etc.

They (and many more like them) just take ELEMENTS of those genres, which in their mind DO NOT BELONG to any of those specific genres but have a direct influence from them, and decided to tag it as Molly Grit.

Fortunately for us, we hadn’t even released the EP when we already had some people talking in a not very positive light about Molly Grit without even hearing the EP!

It seems they didnt even need to hear it as they have heard everything (even before the EP went out).
Quoting Walmer convenience but extending the concept : “some people are always at the forefront of trying to be at the forefront, and when they aint, just diss”.

And that gave us the opportunity to make clear, we are NOT claiming the invention of a new genre. We are DOING a new tag for a “new approach of bass”.

Each style at their beginning gets lots of “key players” dissing until slowly some new people start shaping it to what we know, what was Moombahton if not a slow dutch house with dembow, now it is a complete unique genre!
what is trap if not a new approach to southern hip hop, Zouk Bass a Tarraxinha-Zouk + Bass, and so on.

Let’s call it MUSIC. Let’s TAG it Molly Grit!

Pero que es Radical? Radical significa que afecta la raiz.

El compilado como su nombre lo indica, es RADICAL; tiene dentro musica que definitivamente encaja en ese adjetivo, pero ademas es una caja de pandora donde el que la abre tambien puede re definir su concepto de radicalismo.

Sinergia, Cuentos de los Hermanos Grind, Circus Circus, Compadres Recerdos, entre muchos mas nos llevan por un recorrido extremo en las tangentes mas eclecticas del metal. Sin perder la identidad latina, ni el sonido agresivo.

Somos concientes que el compilado sera polemico y en cierta manera incomprendido por falta de contexto.

Varios posibles escenarios para quien oye el compilado son, primero: Que piense que es algo gracioso y/o que no le guste porque no es su tendencia.

Sin embargo, esa persona pide a empresarios y gobierno que lleven buen metal a su ciudad, y se queja de la falta de apoyo al metal.

Para ese tipo de persona es este compilado.

Para que comprenda que solo cuando se genera identidad COLECTIVA latina, y cultural es posible cambiar el curso del presente, para tener un futuro cohesivo.

Si, existen letras “chistosas” dentro del compilado. Sin embargo el humor es una manera de hacer entender un acto puntual y referente social. ( lease voto latino de Molotov)

Segundo Posible escenario:

Que le gusten unas cosas pero no otras. Es lo ideal, que evalue su criterio.

Que expanda el horizonte sonoro, pero sobretodo, que tenga argumentos validos, y referencias claras, tanto en contenido lirico, como musical, para que cuando algun festival diga que se hizo lo posible por tener “diversidad”, existan pruebas donde se verifique que SI HAY PROPUESTAS DIVERSAS, que estan musicalmente bien producidas, que sus miembros tienen trayectoria en escenario, que mantienen una identidad latina y que mantienen, independientemente de su tendencia, una VISIBLE influencia de rock y/o metal.

Otro posible escenario: Que quien lo escuche le parezca una falta de respeto con “el rock” y el “metal”.

Ahi vamos a ser absurdamente claros sobre tres cosas: Identidad, Hecho y Criterio.

Esto suena latino. No sueco. No Gringo. Latino. Simple.

Falta de respeto hacia el oyente:
Es ahi donde el contenido lirico es importante.

Y es ahi donde entra a prevalecer el hecho VS el criterio.

Las letras de sinergia son fulminantes y estructuradas, sin embargo alguien podria decir que su musica no.

Cuentos de los hermanos Grind, es devastador; sin embargo sus letras son un acto permanente de sarcasmo.
Inclusive EN VIVO son contundentes pero es inevitable no tener una sonrisa cuando uno ve al guitarrista de la mascara de lucha.

Cada cual ve la agresividad desde diferentes perspectivas.

Para esas perspectivas es este compilado.

El escenario ideal es que quien lo baje, lo escuche atento.

Entienda que las tendencias agresivas, se alimentan tambien de otros generos, y que siempre existen tangentes donde estos convergen. Este es un recorrido a esas tangentes.

Cuando hablamos con metaleros suecos, daneses, canadienses, alemanes, polacos, y gringos, y decimos que hacemos metal “latino” .. ellos esperan no escuchar una copia de su propio sonido. Algo autentico, algo real. Algo con identidad, en castellano. Ellos oiran esto, sin el prejuicio, como nosotros oimos lo de ellos, sin darnos cuenta que el metal es el genero de los marginados sociales, los “white trash”, los radicales.

No caigamos en la falsa esperanza de sonar internacional, cuando no apoyamos lo propio. Lo latino. Lo Pesado. Independientemente de un gusto personal. Aca estamos apoyando lo mismo, somos (metaleros) nosotros contra nosotros mismos, O somos una escena que se ayuda mutuamente.
